Every time a litter is born, a breeder looks for the one dog with something extra special. That dog for me was Mickey.

Handled by Tracy Lynn Carroll, Mickey picked up his first four-point major at his first show as a 6-9 puppy. It was a Friday and I didn’t even take off from work as I was coming up on Saturday and didn’t expect more than some ring practice for Mickey that weekend.

Being a small, compact dog, Mickey came together quickly. After he completed his championship as a puppy, I decided he had more to offer and sent him to work with Jeff Wright. Jeff campaigned Mickey to the top Cocker spot in breed points in 2002 and made him the Pedigree Winner. Mickey went on to Westminster in 2003 to earn the First Award of Merit at the Garden. I got to attend the awards dinner and felt so honored to be among people who have spent their lives working with dogs. The dinner at the Plaza Hotel was something I will never forget.

Mickey has gone on to sire seven AKC Conformation champions, including two here at Abbey Lane that can be seen on the Future Page. He is also the sire of my Agility titled girl, Cassie, and has an Obedience titled daughter.
